The Resource:
In the 1980's President Carter signed a proclamation designating the Missouri River from Fort Benton to the Fred Robinson bridge as part of the Wild and Scenic Rivers system in the United States. Since that time, very little has changed concerning management of this resource. In 2001, President Clinton signed a proclamation designating a large portion of land surrounding the Upper Missouri National Wild and Scenic River as the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. This latter designation gave extra protection and support to the river corridor, helping preserve the visual and physical integrity of this world class treasure.
